After the Today Show

Last night, I flew home from New York City after my appearance on the NBC Today Show earlier in the day. For those who have not been following my blog, I was inducted (on LIVE television!) as the newest member of the Joy Fit Club, an exclusive club for people who have lost over 100 pounds. When I applied for the show, I never in a million years thought they would pick me, but they did, and it was awesome! At the time the show aired, I had lost 105 pounds, and I am now continuing to work towards my next weight loss goal.

After the show aired, I decided to broadcast my accomplishment on my social media sites in an effort to inspire other people to do what I have done. Social media is much bigger than I ever thought it was. Three of my clients are now following the plan in Joy Bauer’s book “Your Inner Skinny,” and they have lost a total of 90 pounds between the three of them. I am so proud of them and what they have accomplished thus far.

Also, on Wednesday, December 1st, I will be mentioned in Phil Potempa’s column in The Times newspaper, which will also feature a picture of Joy Bauer and me in the NBC Studios in New York City. 🙂

My appearance on the Today show

Wow, what a crazy past few days!

Monday, November 29th, started with a 6:00am wake-up call. After a quick shower, I headed out the hotel’s front door with my “show clothes” in a bag. I stopped by the Marketplace next door to Club Quarters Hotel for a coffee and a banana, and then I was off to NBC.

At 9:00am, I entered Studio 1-A of NBC in New York City, gave my name to the security guard (I was “on the list”), and was escorted downstairs to the Green Room. In the Green Room, I met Michael Buble, shook his hand, and spoke with him for a few minutes. After that, I sat next to Joy Bauer in make-up while we chatted about my life story. When I was done with make-up, I sat on a couch behind Michael Buble and talked to Joy. We went over what she was going to say and how she wanted me to be all “smile-y and bubbly” when I walked through the door on-set. Melissa Jackson, NBC Producer of the Today Show, took a few pictures of Joy and me before the show.

Fifteen minutes later, Joy and I walked upstairs to the Today show set, and she went over some last minute instructions. Natalie Morales walked by, and Meredith Viera walked out of her dressing room. We said hello to one another, and she wished me luck.

Joy went on set, and I stood behind the closed door on stand-by and waited for the set guy to open the door for my appearance. Then, well, the rest is history. Watch my segment here: Fear pushed him to be “Joy Fit”

After my segment, Joy and I walked back downstairs to the Green Room. She took a few pictures of me outside the Green Room before I gathered my jacket, my old “fat” clothes, and my book signed by Joy and headed out, back to the streets of New York City.

Soon after, my phone started going crazy with hundreds of emails, texts, facebook posts, and tweets. My short time of fame in New York was over. Although it was a whirlwind of a day, I had a great time and would do it all over again if I could!

Now, I’m back in Indiana, and I feel incredibly grateful for everyone’s support and kind words. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to watch the segment or tell me congratulations. My journey continues, as I have more weight to lose and muscle to build, but knowing that I have so much support gives me the motivation to continue working to reach my end goal.

The Green Room

It’s 8am on Monday, November 29th, and I am sitting in the green room at NBC Studios in the green room getting ready to be on the Today show at 10am (EST) and 9am (CST).

As Joy Bauer said on her Facebook status, “Joy will induct 51-year-old Rick Gosser from Indiana into the Joy Fit Club. Rick lost 102 pounds following the diet in my book YOUR INNER SKINNY. Go Rick!!”

Please tune in and watch me!

My Journey to NYC… Continues

On Sunday, November 28th (tonight), I arrived at New York-LAG with clear skies and 47 degrees. I was greeted by a limo driver from NBC, and he drove me to the Club Quarter Hotel on West 51st Street, a block from Rockefeller Plaza.

Here is where I will be on Monday morning:

My Journey to NYC

I will be telling my story through my blog while I go from Chicago to New York City back to Chicago during the next 36 hours.

In less than 10 hours, I will be landing at New York City’s Laguardia Airport to prepare for my appearance on the NBC Today Show on Monday, November 29, 2010. I will be on during the 9am (CST) hour with Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb & Joy Bauer as I will be the next member inducted into the “Joy Fit Club,” an exclusive club of folks that have lost over 100 pounds through plain, good ol’ diet and exercise. So set your TIVO or DVR and watch along with the world.

This whole thing started on December 31, 2009 when I got on the scale and weighed 310 pounds. I decided that it was time to start losing weight and get my life back.

My ah-ha moment was in December 2009 when I went to get tested for sleep apnea and pretty much decided that I was just going to sleep with a machine at night and that was the way it was going to be. When they called and told me that I did not have sleep apnea, I knew that I had to change my life. The decision to get braces in February 2010 at the age of 50 to straighten my teeth was something that got me started because there were foods that I would just not eat. I went on a vacation in March 2010 with my family, and when I saw those vacation pictures, I could not believe how much I had let myself go. It was those pictures that made me really decide that I did not want to be fat anymore.

I started to watch my food consumption and exercise every day. I made a commitment to walk the dog every day and worked my way up to walk/run and even walked/ran a 3K race in May 2010. My goal was to run a 5K in 2011, but a minor knee surgery in October 2010 has set that goal back just a bit. However, I am determined and mentally prepared to train hard, exercise, and run that 5K soon.

Now, I love being healthier and active. Eating is a necessary thing in my life because I am planning out my meals and what I eat for the day. The past 10 months, I have lost 106 pounds, and I am 14 pounds away from my goal of weighing 190 pounds. This is a commitment to my life that will continue on forever. I have even helped motivate two of my clients to start losing weight, and together they have lost 70 pounds in 3 months. I hope I can inspire many more people to do what I have done.

Renaming Black Friday

The Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. We’ve all experienced Black Friday at some point in our lives, whether as shoppers or employees. Why do the retailers call it “Black Friday?” I think we should start a movement and start calling Black Friday…

GREEN FRIDAY!

Everyone talks about going GREEN and finding new ways to be more GREEN. In the apparel business, GREEN is an ever-expanding, though somewhat new, fashion trend.

Manufacturers are making new GREEN products every day. GREEN apparel is all-natural, organic, and eco-friendly, which means there are no harmful or synthetic fertilizers or pesticides used in the making of the product. Eco-friendly styles are made with recycled material, and they’re one step closer to a healthier planet. Anyone who purchases and wears these products will not only look good but will also feel good about doing their part to help the environment.

Other GREEN products being introduced into the market are:

GREEN promotional products: Ecologic
In 2009, Gosser Corporate Sales launched our brand-new line of eco-friendly products called EcoLogic. These products are part of GCS commitment to bring sustainable products to the marketplace and protect our natural resources for future generations.

GREEN recycled products: Evans Manufacturing

-Custom imprinted paper products, made with recycled paper: 3M Promotional Markets

This Black Friday, I encourage you to help start a movement: Purchase GREEN apparel, GREEN promotional products, and GREEN recycled products. Let’s start what I like to call… GREEN FRIDAY!
